As I’ve heard there is already more than 100k users, but there is a portion of those who haven’t played any game yet which is why they don’t show up in ranking.
For me, as I’ve started on 4th of September, when they were 4600 people, that’s amazing that Codingame is going bigger and bigger, and I’m glad I’m a part of it 
As for event planned, I guess even if I knew, I couldn’t tell you
