Hypersonic - identical to conventional Bomberman?

Hi,

As a CodinGame lover, I realised their contents usually draw references from existing games and past competitions. So I am wondering is Hypersonic very similar to Bomberman? I am not familiar with the original game to tell whether the rules are the same.

This has an impact how I approach the contest. Do I study existing AI’s and past contests? Should I watch humans play the game on YouTube, or do I have to come up with my own AI?

I played quite a bit of Bomberman (on various platforms) in my college days. The main difference I see here (from the original TG16 Bomberman) is that you need to pause to place a bomb; i.e. to place a bomb and move from (0, 0) to (1, 0) takes two “turns”, whereas on the console game, you could place bombs while moving.

Is Hypersonic one bomb per player only? And real Bomberman many bombs per player?

There are powerups (including extra bombs) in HyperSonic as well. I did think of a very slight difference related to powerups, though:

In Bomberman (at least in later versions) there was conservation of powerups. When someone was killed, all of the powerups that they had collected throughout the game would be distributed around the board for the remaining players to pick up.
